Familiar Eyes

It was a cool morning, quiet everywhere else, except for some muffled sounds of sports commentaries I hear coming from the hall.

We arrived back at his parents' estate the evening before, and being in the middle of an oil palm plantation is indeed a big shock. Not a bad kinda shock though. It was different. Peaceful.

When we stood out in the garden at night, there were no sounds of traffic and the air was crisp and clean. And we couldn't see shit. Basically, it was dark, for miles and miles. A thin layer of mist was visible under the glow of the garden lamp. Nice and cold. We didn't need the aircon and went to sleep with weird sounds coming from outside, crickets and bugs. I wondered if there were wild animals roaming outside our window.

I didn't sleep all that well. The unfamiliar bed and pillows kept me up. I remembered tossing and turning, and getting up to go the loo in the middle of the night, only to be startled and jolted to my senses when I stepped on the icy marbled floor. As the sun rose, I was awoken by gunshots. I later found out the estate workers were wild-boar hunting nearby.

Later in the day, auntie brought out a whole stack of photo albums for me to entertain myself. I love old photos. There were at least 30 albums for me to pleasure myself with.

He was a cute kid. His looks didn't change much - that same bulbous nose, and the thick pouty lips. That cheeky glint in his eyes were unmistakable, but he wasn't fond of smiling. He was a cold statue compared to his younger brother who was a camwhore and as a kid, already struck every pose known to man. Camwhore brother is a pilot in training today. (I know, uniformed men... *drools*)

I chanced upon this picture he took with another kid, and they look about the same age. Malay or Indian, I couldn't tell. That kid was dressed in a red and white T-shirt, with matching red pants. His eyes, huge and piercing. His hair, longish and it fell to the sides, framing the uber-cute face. I took a liking to this kid immediately, and put the album aside. I wanted to ask the man who this kid was, and if he still kept in touch.

"That's Roy," he said as-a-matter-of-factly.

"Oh." I said.

I retrieved the album back from his hands and continued staring at the picture. "Oh, wow," I said again.

Now I know where I saw those eyes.

I woke up next to them before.

For One

So I did it.

I booked a flight to Bangkok, for one.

Have never travelled alone, so I thought I'll give it a go. Besides, it's just a 3D/2N trip. Just to get away. Just to take a break. Just to walk the streets of a different city.

I had initially wanted to hit the beach... but they said solo trips to beaches can be quite emo. And I don't wanna be lonely at night, so I figured Bangkok will keep me busy.

Flights, done. Accomodation, still researching. Suggestions welcomed :)

3 weeks time.

I can't wait!

wet

'Twas the mother of all wet Mondays.

It rained and rained, and rained, and just wouldn't stop.

So I pulled up at the Shell station on my way home. The attendant on duty, typically, a migrant worker.

"Card or cash?" he asked as I emerged from my car.

I waved the card I was holding in my hand.

Waiting impatiently for the approval process, I heard him.

"Mau cuci cermin?"

I eye-balled him.

He still didn't get it.

"Hujan lah abang oi...."

He was the second gas station attendant who asked me if I wanted my windows cleaned despite the pouring rain. I wonder if they REALLY are that dense, or merely trying to chat up a hot chick.

So, while some were busy evacuating their homes and worrying over rising flood waters (God bless them!), we gathered for drinks.

Boards of flavoured vodka shots, aromatic red wine, soothing mojitos and jagger bombs were the order of the night. Coupled with a large dollop of laughter, bitching and gossiping, it was THE perfect remedy for an ultra wet Monday.

zombie

I stood by the sink, arms moving weakly as I brushed my teeth, inspecting the dark circles under my eyes.

I held a dark purple toothbrush in my hand. Replaced it a few days ago. It was a green one previously.

Then I eyed another purple toothbrush lying there. I checked it again.

He had just changed his as well, and I was brushing away with HIS new toothbrush. Spit, rinse and went to bed.

On a usual day, I would have related the incident to him, and I'd be laughing away like a kid.

48 hours without sleep makes me a zombie.

Not exactly sleepy, but more so fatigue engulfing me physically.

I moved around mechanically.

No jokes. No emotions. No rasa. No strength.

Tip: When visiting Starhill, try and park closer to the hotel, instead of right outside the Starhill entrance. They wash your car and leave a little card on your windscreen, informing you that they've cleaned your car as a nice little gesture, thanking you for staying at the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur.

Nice people they are.

Working there over the last 2 days, I had my car washed TWICE. When there was about 3 months worth of dust and grime on it.

When I got home, told the boyfriend I got my car washed for free, he moved to inspect it and said, "Ooh, but they didn't do the top part properly!"

I gave him a tongue lashing. Humans are quite hard to be satisfied. We always want more.

Then we tongue-lashed in bed.

Wednesday afternoon, 3:20pm. Time for more sleep.
